    FAQ – QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS ON NATTOKINASE

    IS NATTOKINASE SAFE?
    Nattokinase is a food-derived enzyme that works in the same way that it would be obtained from an edible natto meal. The amount in the daily dose is also the same as that obtained from a typical natto meal. This food has a history of over 1000 years of use and is known to be very healthy.

    IS CHINESE NATTOKINASE THE SAME AS THE JAPANESE ONE?
    Most of the time it is not. The preparation and isolation of the real nattokinase is a demanding and expensive process. Therefore, many nattokinase products from China actually contain either partially or completely different enzymes than claimed.

    CAN NATTOKINASE BE USED IF YOU SUFFER FROM THICK BLOOD?
    Nattokinase itself does not cause bleeding, but a blood thinner may cause it. Taking these together may make the effect of the blood thinner too strong and therefore a risk. Therefore, the use of nattokinase with blood thinners is not recommended. If you are taking medication, discuss the use of a dietary supplement with your doctor.

    WHY HAS NATTOKINASE NOT BEEN AVAILABLE IN EUROPE IF IT IS SO EFFECTIVE?
    For the same reason that many other effective products are “banned” here. The reason is the EU Novel Food Act, which stipulates that all new products from a European perspective must be used through the European Supervisory Authority (EFSA). The passage of this screen is not self-evident, and many products will never reach the market.

    NSK-SD Nattokinase passed the EFSA Product Safety Screen in 2017, after which it has been available for sale in the EU.

    Ingredients: Rice starch (filler), Nattokinase NSK-SD® (Japan (extract from fermented soybeans)),  capsule (HPMC hydroxypropylmethylcellulose).
