What is MCT and why is it beneficial?
MCT fatty acids are the so-called medium chain fatty acids (Medium Chain Triglycerides), which are naturally rich in coconut oil, for example. They are used very smoothly by the body as an energy source and in addition they accelerate the energy metabolism. If you straighten it up a bit, then MCT is fat that doesn’t actually accumulate on your waist line and helps with burning what already exists.
Where the absorption of other fats require a fairly complex chain of events in the body, MCTs are absorbed better and are much more readily available – which is why they are often prescribed when someone has significant malabsorption problem. They put less strain on digestion and on the other hand speed up the energy metabolism.
Especially for those who follow a ketogenic diet, MCT is very beneficial. A ketogenic diet follows the principle that the daily intake of calories (energy) is at least 70 % fat and, on the other hand, the amount of carbohydrates is kept low. The body then switches to using what is available, in other words fat, and makes substances called ketones. Ketones, in turn, have a number of health-promoting effects. Another way to get ketosis is a good old water fast. Even then, the amount of ketones rises to a very high level and they are one of the reasons behind the healthiness of fasting.
Why are MCT fatty acids good for ketogenic diet?
Because the body converts them to ketones more easily than anything else. Thus, ingestion of MCT even facilitates access to and retention of ketosis itself.
Thus, in their shortness, ketones are good for health and MCT fatty acids help to achieve this.
So why exactly have we chosen the C8 format alone?
Of the above two fatty acids (C8 and C10), one forms ketones the fastest. This most potent MCT is caprylic acid, C8 for short.
C8 POWDER
Our powder contains only two ingredients and no extra additives. Caprylic acid (C8) itself is derived from Philippine coconut oil. Since no oil can dry as such, something is needed to help keep the oil in the powder form. We have chosen acacia fiber for this, which is a soluble fiber and useful for the stomach. C8 powder therefore contains nothing unnecessary.
Caprylic acid in powder form is also much easier for the stomach than liquid oil. Liquid oil can cause stomach ache for many individuals, but the powder is much better tolerated. As a powder, it is also completely soluble in both cold and hot beverages.
How to use?
Add 1-2 spoons of C8 powder to any beverage or food. The powder itself is tasteless, but it brings fullness to whatever you put it in.
Tips:
- Try replacing any coffee milk with C8 powder
- If you do intermittent fasting, you can increase the fasting effect by taking C8 powder while you are not eating anything else.
- Replace your morning coffee by making a morning drink from Biomed’s flavored bone broth powder and C8 powder
- Get the most out of C8 Powder by cutting down on carbs and favoring a protein-fat-rich diet
